Sexual Shenanigans

Letterbalm Interlocking Male and Female SymbolsDear LetterBalm: My girlfriend and I are in our 50s and have been in a relationship for six years. Our sex life has been pretty conventional, until now. Recently, my girlfriend has been trying some new things in bed. Not that I’m complaining, but she never has been this adventurous before. I don’t think she picked it up from another partner – I don’t think she’d cheat on me. But it’s bothering me. I don’t want to discourage her, yet I want to find out how she acquired these new talents. Any ideas?

Have you tried the direct approach? After praising her to high heaven, of course, have you asked her? Clearly, this calls for some delicacy. Maybe she’s read some books, watched a porno, compared notes with open-minded girlfriends. Whatever she’s done, you’re a happier guy these days. Ms. L.B. asks, if you trust her, why would you willingly threaten the new bedroom dynamic? Since you probably won’t leave this alone, here’s what you might say, while the two of you are partaking of favorite snacks and beverages in bed. Keep it light and casual and don’t bring up the subject again if you know what’s good for you:

Linda, I can’t believe we’ve been together for six years. It’s been great, and it keeps getting better. It’s incredible that after all this time you’re being especially attentive to me when we have sex. I can’t help noticing that you’re making love to me in amazing new ways, which are wonderful. OK, I want to know – where in the world did you figure out how to [describe something new she’s doing]? Seriously, I want to know. Frankly, I’m feeling that I want to reciprocate with as much gusto as you have. You gotta tell me how you learned what you do and you gotta show me what I can do for you.
