A Letter to Mom

7 May

Letterbalm Dear MomDear LetterBalm: I’m a senior in high school who’ll be going to college in the fall. This may be lame, but I need help to write a letter to my mother. She’s a single mom – my dad died when I was a baby. She’s been a wonderful mom, and she went through some really hard times and sacrificed for me. I want her to know how much I love her and appreciate all she does. Can you give me the words?

–Letter Shy

This is the sort of request that brings a tear to Ms. L.B.’s eye. This is what LetterBalm is all about. And, it’s Mother’s Day, a perfect occasion to write an appreciative handwritten letter to your mom. Keep it simple, personal and sincere. Use a pen and nice stationery, practice first and check your spelling. It would be best to give the letter to her in a private moment or leave it in a place where you know she’ll find it (her handbag, maybe, or on her nightstand). Surely she’ll treasure that letter and read it a thousand times. Something along these lines:

Dear Mom,

I’m writing this letter to tell you what a great mom you have been to me. You’ve sacrificed so much to give me a good life, and I appreciate all you’ve done. You’ve been a role model for me, and you’ve guided me through the years. You’re my hero, Mom. You’ve given me good values I can use for all my life. Next year, I’ll go off to college – in large part, my success is because of your example.

I’ll carry you always in my heart. Thank you for being my strong and beautiful mom.

Love always,
