How come I get to fling advice and tell people what to say? Well, somebody’s got to do it.

I’m a strong writer with edgy humor, broad interests and type A assertiveness seasoned by years of living in New York City. (C’mon, I won’t be that mean.)

Ever since I was a little girl in Connecticut sprawled on the living room rug, reading the New York Daily News every Sunday, I wanted to be a journalist. I earned my masters of science in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and worked as a reporter and editor at The New York Times, Forbes, Office.com, Women’s Wear Daily and, yes, the New York Daily News, among other media.

I covered business, social- and human-interest topics for years, and, most recently as a public relations professional, I counseled companies, non-profits and individual clients on ethics and governance.

And, I write very, very good letters.

I’m Ms. LetterBalm – or Ms. L.B. to you. I’m the self-appointed boss of civility. So, there.
